Shrimps for the aquarium
An enrichment for almost every aquarium and a real eye-catcher are the sometimes transparent, sometimes colorful, striped, speckled or dotted crawlers. Shrimps are not only cute fellows with very interesting behavior, they are also useful algae and growth eaters, destroy food remains, dead plant parts and even dispose of smaller dead snails, fish or other animals - a true health police in the aquarium. With their beautiful colors and patterns, they make an interesting contrast to the plants and decoration in the aquarium. Due to their small size, they feel comfortable in species aquariums. In the community aquarium they are also useful helpers, but especially larger fish like to see them as a snack.Apart from the colorful, very differently patterned dwarf shrimp, there are other, larger representatives, which are also highly interesting and can be observed for hours. Some of these species are predatory, others can be socialized very well with not too large fish. Large shrimp species should not be kept together with crayfish. Many shrimp species reproduce in freshwater, only some species need saltwater or brackish water for larval rearing (see the respective species description). If you want to keep shrimps successfully and raise young shrimps, you should definitely observe the water values that the animals need. Then you can soon enjoy new little crawlers that fill the aquarium with life. Shrimps are omnivores. Especially good for them is some brown autumn foliage in the aquarium, from which they graze biofilms and which they also eat - depending on the stage of decomposition.

Aquarium shrimps
They are becoming more and more popular: the colorful or brown, patterned or monochrome scissor knights are becoming more and more popular in aquaristics. Dwarf crayfish are interesting inhabitants and also feel comfortable in somewhat smaller, well-structured planted aquariums. Large crayfish, depending on species and character, are not necessarily a good stock for planted tanks, because they can garden heavily and also dig. Plants standing in the way will be chopped off and eaten on occasion. However, you can create appealing aquarium landscapes with wood and stones and use floating plants as green accents.Crayfish do not swim particularly well. Therefore, a pure crayfish aquarium does not need to offer a lot of swimming space, but should also be well structured in height, because the pinchers like to climb very well and use all surfaces. For this reason, the aquarium must also be covered without gaps - crayfish are true escape artists and develop amazing strength. It is advisable to always have at least one more hiding place than crayfish in the tank. Socialization with bottom-dwelling fish can be problematic. Fish that sleep on the bottom will then also like to be nipped. Large crayfish can be kept well together with dwarf shrimp, dwarf crayfish will prey on one or the other of them.
Crayfish of different species should not be socialized under any circumstances, as they communicate differently, which can lead to fierce arguments, injuries and even death of inferior animals. As omnivores, they will gratefully accept virtually any food. Some brown autumn leaves should always be in the aquarium as permanent food.

Crabs for Aquarium & Terrarium
From small to large - crabs are fascinating co-inhabitants. Most species are quite colorful and attractive. Crabs are absolute character animals, some of which can even become tame. Some species are nocturnal, others are also active during the day and can be easily observed. Most crabs feel comfortable in an aquaterrarium, where there is a land and a water part. A few species are purely aquatic, but are more than grateful for a perch above the water surface, except for the micro crab (Limnopilos nayanetri), which remains completely submerged. Other species have adapted to life on land to such an extent that they can even drown in water. Therefore, please pay attention to the exact descriptions of the individual species. Among the crabs there are species that can be reared in the terrarium, others need seawater for larval development. Some of these species have also been bred in captivity, but the breeding is a bit more complicated. Most crabs are omnivorous, but there are also specialized species that live exclusively on snails, for example. There are distinct loners, which can also be aggressive within the species, and species, which show a lively social behavior and need the company of conspecifics to fully live out their behavioral spectrum. Also here - please pay attention to the descriptions of the individual species!

Aquarium mussels
A day at the beach is only a round thing if you have searched for mussels ... that there are also mussels in fresh water is not quite so well known. These animals live predominantly rather hidden and partially burrow into the bottom ground. Therefore, it is important that an animal-friendly mussel aquarium is set up with an appropriate substrate in which the mussels can burrow. Mussels feed on minute particles in the water, which they suck in through an opening and then filter through. Thus, they act as a natural suspended particle filter and provide very clear water. In filtered aquariums the water is usually too clean for mussels, and without targeted feeding they can starve. Optimal is an aquarium with other filter feeders like fan shrimps or also piano snails and snails of the genus Brotia. Mussels love dust food, ground flake food, spirulina or chlorella powder and mulm. A good current is an advantage so that the food reaches the mussels. With their quite strong foot they can move around and look for a favorable spot by themselves. Mussels have no problems with peaceful, not too inquisitive fishes as co-stock in the community aquarium, also shrimps and snails are possible neighbors. Crabs and shrimps, depending on their size, can crack the shells and eat the mussel. Most mussel species reproduce through several larval stages. In the aquarium, these larvae usually do not grow large.

Aquarium snails
In the early days of aquaristics, snails were feared and considered a real nuisance. In the meantime there is new knowledge and snails are nowadays considered useful and even decorative inhabitants in the aquarium. There is only too much if the animals find plenty of food in the form of artificial food, dead plants or dead animals - and this is literally in the hands of every aquarium keeper. Small snails like the colorful ramshorn snails can be kept from a vessel size of 10 liters. The so-called snail vases are becoming increasingly popular. They can - well planted - even be operated without technical equipment on the windowsill and are there a pretty eye-catcher. In the aquarium, too, these little helpers eat algae and other coatings and take care of food residues that would otherwise severely impair the water quality. The Malayan Turmdeckelschnecke lives predominantly in the soil and ensures by its digging activity that no oxygen-poor rotting zones can develop there. There is no need to feed these small snails separately, they usually find enough food in a running community aquarium. Of course, they are still happy about the one or other brown autumn leaf. Large snails such as apple snails and the large Asian trumpet snails, on the other hand, need larger aquariums, generally additional food and a good filter. Racing snails, staghorn snails and all other representatives of the snails are very good algae eaters. Since these snails are without exception wild-caught and cannot be bred in the aquarium, they should not be placed in very freshly set up aquariums, but rather wait until sufficient biofilms and algae cover have formed.

Aquarium plants
Real plants are what really make an aquarium a biotope. Not only do they look beautiful, they also metabolize harmful substances for the animals and convert them into oxygen. With plants you can create beautiful underwater landscapes. With their very different growth heights and leaf shapes, you can create great contrasts. Green plants come in all shades of color. With good lighting and fertilization, even red plants show their most beautiful shades. You can play with these colors in the aquarium design and provide a lot of variety in the layout. Many aquatic plants are found in nature in the shallow water zone. During the dry season they grow above water, during the rainy season, when the streams and rivers overflow their banks, they are flooded for months. The above-water form is often quite different from the submerged underwater form. In aquatic plant nurseries, these plants are cultivated above water because it is possible to take advantage of the CO2 in the air. In this way, the plants grow much stronger and faster. In the aquarium, they adapt to the underwater form within a few weeks.
Plants intended for shrimp aquariums should be watered separately for two weeks before planting. If you prefer to plant immediately, plants from in vitro culture are recommended. These plants are guaranteed pest and pesticide free. Wash off the nutrient gel and place in the aquarium.

Nano aquariums
Nothing works in aquaristics without them - the clear glass boxes are the be-all and end-all. We offer you stylish tanks that you can design optimally. Especially shrimps feel well in smaller aquariums, if you arrange them animal-friendly. In our assortment you will find nano aquariums from 10 to 60 liters capacity. You can choose between pure glass tanks and complete sets. The complete sets include a filter suitable for shrimp keeping, a light (LED or conventional), a cover and a foam pad, along with a starter pack of shrimp food. Some sets also include fertilizer and possibly even a heater or thermometer and substrate. What exactly is part of the complete package, you will find in the respective article description. For shrimp and dwarf crab keeping the small 10 liter cubes are not recommended, but for some small snails they are ideal. They can also be used for very nice plant arrangements, for example they can be used for a Wabi Kusa (an arrangement of marsh plants with only the roots in the water). An aquarium is best placed in the room so that it is a beautiful eye-catcher, but is not hit by sunlight. This avoids the formation of algae and - especially in summer - excessive additional heating of the water. The base cabinet should be chosen sufficiently stable, after all, it must safely support the aquarium for a long time.

Aquarium filters - Aquarium lighting - Other aquarium equipment
Filters are of great advantage in an invertebrate aquarium. Most freshwater invertebrates in the hobby come from clean, oxygen-rich waters. A filter that not only mechanically cleans the aquarium of suspended matter, but also biologically removes pollutants from the water is therefore very helpful, especially when keeping shrimp. In our assortment you will find suitable filter media and other accessories with which the filter - if necessary - can be made baby shrimp-proof or even more efficient. Whether you choose an external filter, an internal filter, a sponge filter, a bottom filter or a backpack filter depends not only on personal preference but also on the size of the aquarium or the amount of water to be filtered, as well as on the stock in the tank and, of course, on the available space in and around the aquarium. Especially at night and at high temperatures in summer, an air pump with an aerator is a good way to increase the oxygen content in the water. If you have a filter tank, for example with fan shrimp, a separate flow pump is almost mandatory. Even if you want to build a hamburger mat filter yourself, you need a pump to drive it. A lot has happened in aquarium lighting in recent years. The LED has begun its triumphant march, and lighting systems are now available here that are in no way inferior to conventional tubes and compact fluorescent lamps in terms of brightness and light color. Which type of lighting and which illumination level is ultimately chosen depends on the stock, the planned planting and personal taste. Under the heading "other equipment" you will find all kinds of devices that make life easier for you and your aquarium animals and plants: Heaters, cooling fans, UV sterilizers, thermometers, osmosis systems for the production of very low mineral water, CO2 fertilization systems and much more.

Foodand care for your aquarium inhabitants
Eating and drinking keeps body and soul together. Our aquarium animals do not need to drink, as they simply absorb the necessary liquid from the surrounding water, but food is always an issue. We offer a wide range of different feeding systems from well-known manufacturers and also our own brand, which have been specially designed for our invertebrates, as well as accessories such as feeding bowls, automatic feeders and feeding clips. For the breeding of young fish and the feeding of shrimps and crayfish, Artemia have proven to be very effective. Here you can get everything you need for hatching the eggs and also other live food. In this section you will also find everything you need to make your water suitable for invertebrates. Especially bee shrimp and other animals from soft, acidic water often do not tolerate our tap water well. It is a good idea to produce water that is low in minerals, for example with the help of an osmosis system, and then mineralize it with appropriate mineral salt mixtures to meet the exact needs of the animals you keep. These mineral salts are specifically produced for the respective shrimp species and create an optimal environment for the animals. You will also find everything you need for further water treatment, be it natural products such as alder cones or sea almond leaves, which make the water invertebrate-friendly with the humic substances they contain, or water conditioners, which bind pollutants and thus make them harmless.

Aquarium decoration - Aquarium furnishings - Aquarium grounds
Roots and stones are useful and visually appealing materials for aquarium decoration. Shrimp and crayfish absorb fiber from real wood, which helps keep them healthy. Some stones can harden soft acidic water, please note here the respective article description! There are also very attractive decorative elements made of synthetic resin, which do not affect the water values and can still be planted with moss or perching plants such as anubias or ferns. Shrimps, crayfish and crabs like to hide. For this purpose we offer attractive solutions made of fired clay, which can also be planted with moss or moss balls. Moss can be tied onto our clay nano-coins and then used to create an attractive lawn or boundaries, for example between dark and light substrate in the aquarium. We carry active Soil, which influences the water values and creates a pleasant environment especially for soft water shrimps and plants, but also passive substrate, which has no influence on the water values. The colorful shrimp gravel we offer is coated with special resin. It does not release any substances harmful to shrimps and other invertebrates and can be used in the aquarium without hesitation. The AquaDesign Amano (ADA) substrate system is composed of various well thought-out additives, all of which are also available from us. No matter which one you choose: The substrate should be regularly vacuumed during water changes and freed from food residues, so that no sludge spots can form.
