Taxiphyllum barbieri is also known as Java moss - although it has already displaced the "real" Java moss (Vesicularia dubyana) from the hobby about 40 years ago. In the meantime V. dubyana is imported again and also sold as Java moss or also as Singapore moss. Taxiphyllum barbieri does not need much light, it even grows in shady areas and under low light. It is also not very demanding on water values.
Moss clumps look nice in the foreground, and especially on roots and stones they give an aquarium a very natural look.
By regular pruning Taxiphyllum barbieri develops a dense, bushy growth. Cut shoots can be reused: Tied on or glued (with superglue) they cut a good figure. You can also propagate the moss cushions by simply cutting them.
