Mix Sakalare also belong to the sailfin or common angelfish and are another popular color form of Pterophyllum scalare . Already for over 100 years angelfishes inspire the aquaristics and were at that time with one of the first imported fishes. As an evergreen it is represented today in many different colors in the trade and enjoys a popularity, which will not dry up so fast. Today we owe the most different colors to the careful breeding and selection. As a rainforest dweller, the sailfin inhabits calm river areas from the Rio Negro to the Amazon basin. Blackwater aquariums or Amazon biotopes are therefore perfect to offer these animals a lifelike new home!
Our Mix Angelfish are German offspring, which you will receive in pairs.
Angelfish have a typical round body with very flat sides, which has long and pointed "sail fins", which gave them their name. The terminal mouth is also striking. Due to their long fins, the total height of the animals appears more than twice as high as their body height, reaching almost 26 cm and a length of 15 cm. Therefore, their keeping is suitable only in high aquariums from at least 60 cm, better more. The Mix Angelfish is one of its most colorful representatives and demonstrates quasi the "Carnival of Angelfish" in the aquarium.
With a possible age of almost 10 years the Mix Angelfish is a loyal family member. With about half a year angelfish become sexually mature for the first time, about 2 years later they are fully grown.
The sex differentiation with the Mix Angelfish is difficult, so that the group attitude is advantageous also because of this with several animals. Harmonious pairs are formed from this, until then the swarm swims more or less loosely together. Although the occasionally appearing "bull's forehead" of the males could also be used as a sex characteristic, the females sometimes also form this. Females signal their readiness to mate by cleaning spawning substrate. In doing so, she "cleans" flat stones on which she lays her eggs in long rows, which are inseminated by the male. Due to possible predators in the community aquarium, rearing is more suitable in a nursery aquarium. The male and also the female defend the fry and the young fish.
Group keeping is recommended due to the special body height of at least 5 animals in very high aquariums from 300 liters. Above all, the height of the aquarium is more decisive than the length, because angelfish tend to stress and anxiety caused by too low aquariums, which can quickly make them ill. A good infrastructure with Bog roots and Stones bend the occasional clarification of the rank order somewhat. These mark territories and prevent permanent visual contact. A generous swimming space should be paid attention with the organization, also offer themselves large-leaved Sword plants are excellent, because the females like to spawn especially on these leaves. Angelfish are somewhat more demanding regarding their water values and also prefer very good hygiene. Their water should therefore have a total hardness (GH) of 3 to 15 °dGH and a pH value between 6 and 7.5. Temperate changing water during water changes, as well as enriching with Alder cones, Seaweed products or liquid Humic substances therefore supports the body's own immune defense of the animals and the well-being.
Corys, Ancistrus and larger Tetra are suitable in the Skalar aquarium outstanding as Beifische. However, pronounced fin-biters such as Sumatra barbs, Red of Rio or blood tetras should not be placed with the long-finned fish. Small crustaceans and other invertebrates end up as snacks for the Mix Angelfish. Snails, however, usually remain largely untroubled.
As a somewhat sensitive carnivore, the Mix Angelfish should only be fed very high quality foods, as it has difficulty digesting and excreting unnecessary fillers, which in turn have a negative effect on its water quality. Therefore, a flake food or slowly sinking granulated food for carnivorous ornamental fish is suitable for his diet. Also, its menu can be enriched with perfect live food or frozen food such as Artemia mosquito larvae, daphnia or water fleas .
Our food recommendation: The NatureHolic Cichfeed has a grain size of 1.5 mm and is therefore suitable for larger fish. The NH Cichfeed is a soft granulate for mainly carnivorous ornamental fish. It has the same consistency as small crustaceans and insect larvae that the fish eat naturally, and the soft granules protect the fish mouth from micro injuries that can be caused by hard feed granules.
Our plant recommendation: For planting, use NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
