As algae snails we ship snails that feed practically exclusively on algae and do not go to plants: Staghorn snails of the genus clithon or racing snails of the genera Neritina and Vittina

Algae snails are not only useful, but they are also particularly beautiful snails. They are most noticeable for the even shape of their usually colorfully patterned shell, which almost completely covers the soft body, giving them good protection even from curious larger fish.
As their trivial name suggests, algae snails are particularly effective and successful at reducing and combating algae growth on stones and glass. Algae snails are particularly fond of taking care of the annoying green algae deposits on the glass and on the decoration, but they also graze other algae growth. These animals are therefore especially recommended for aquariums with algae problems, but they are also used especially in aquascapes and planted aquariums for algae prevention. Please do not put them in aquariums that are too fresh, as the snails can starve to death because they cannot find enough growth.
But also otherwise algae snails can enrich practically every aquarium by their peaceful behavior and their unpretentiousness and can be socialized with almost all fish species and other invertebrates. Even larger crayfish and crabs cannot crack the thick shells, and the lid (the operculum) of the snails, which closes the shell completely, is also a good protection. Predatory snails can be dangerous to it, so the algae snail should not be socialized with them.
The main food source of the algae snail is algae. Additional feeding is only necessary when the aquarium is empty. Then the snails will gladly take Natureholic's snail feed, dried Hokkaido pumpkin, brown autumn leaves and now and then some frozen food.
Breeding the algae snails in human care has not been successful so far, because the young snails in the larval stage need brackish water and special food. Although the animals frequently spawn, no reproduction of any kind is to be feared, no matter how large the food supply.
The algae snail is very robust and adaptable as far as water values are concerned. The pH should be above 6.5. With a low KH, sufficient calcium must be supplied via the food, here the snail feed from Natureholic is suitable, for example.
