Alternanthera reineckii Purple - NatureHolic InVitro
The Purple Parrot Leaf Alternanthera reineckii "purple", also known as Alternanthera reineckii "lilacina", is native to South America where it grows as a swamp plant partly above and partly below water.
The underwater leaves of the stem plant have a bright red to dark red upper side under medium to strong light, under less light the parrot leaf turns green. The underside of the leaves is intense purple. The smooth leaf margin distinguishes Alternanthera reineckii "purple" from Alternanthera reineckii "rosaefolia".
This stem plant grows 20-60 cm tall, which makes it perfect for the middle ground to background in the aquarium. Regular pruning will give you beautiful, compact groups. We recommend medium to strong light and CO2 fertilization for brilliant colors and compact growth.
Especially in the Holland aquarium, but also in aquascaping, this beautiful representative of the red-leaved aquarium plants is extremely popular.
Alternanthera reineckii "purple" is - like almost all stem plants - very easy to propagate by cuttings. To do this, cut off approx. 10 cm long side shoots or top shoots and simply insert them approx. 2-3 cm deep into the substrate. This way roots grow quickly and you have a new group of plants. You can also rejuvenate existing plant groups very easily this way.
This algae-free, toxin-free and snail-free InVitro grown plant does not need to be quarantined before planting - just rinse the growing medium off the roots under running water and off you go!
Alternanthera reineckii "purple" also looks great on the land part of a humid terrarium, aquaterrarium or waterfall aqu arium. The emersed leaves are olive green, the underside is whitish. Cultivated emerged, the purple-leaved parrot leaf can even bloom.
