The unusually colored American Water Hedge Didiplis diandra from the eastern United States of America grows to a height of about 30 cm and thus fits nicely in the middle ground to background. Its fine needle-like leaflets make the water hedge look decidedly graceful.
Under strong light with adequate nutrients, the American Water Hedge takes on brilliant orange and red hues. For the colors to develop properly, the plant needs iron and micronutrients in particular. CO2 fertilization ensures healthy, rapid growth. If the light is not strong enough, Didiplis diandra will remain green.
Didiplis diandra provides very nice color contrasts especially with pure green plants, but it also brings variety to the aquarium through its leaf shape, especially in combination with plants with broad leaf blades. Its fast growth makes it a good competitor against algae.
With regular pruning, which it tolerates well, Didiplis diandra becomes nicely compact and bushy. It branches out well. The cut parts of the plant are put into the substrate as cuttings and take root there after a short time.
Our recommendation: For a splendid plant growth, we recommend the premium nutrient medium when setting up a new plant NatureHolic GroundBooster
