The caladium-leaved spear leaf Anubias barteri var. caladiifolia originates from Africa, where it grows as a perching plant at the water's edge partly above and also under water. With its broad heart-shaped leaves it is the largest variety of Anubias barteri. The leaves are slightly lighter and also slightly softer than those of Anubias barteri var. barteri. This Anubias is excellent for greening root wood and stones in the middle ground of the aquarium. As a shade plant, Caladium-leaved Spear Leaf does well in the shade of taller plants or in less brightly lit aquariums.
Please do not plant Anubias barteri var. caladiifolia, but tie it up to avoid rotting of the rootstock.
This spear leaf also thrives well out of water in very humid air, it is ideal for greening humid terrariums or paludariums for this reason. Its firm, tough leaves prevent herbivores from preying on this Anubias.
For easy propagation, simply cut the rootstock so that at least two leaves are still attached to each section.
