The sea lettuce-like water ear (Aponogeton ulvaceus) from Madagascar grows up to about 50 cm in height. Its leaf edges are strongly wavy, the leaves themselves are slightly transparent, light green and sometimes have a brownish tinge. Sea lettuce-like water ear is great as a specimen plant and eye catcher, but you can also use it well in the background of an aquarium to create structure and provide a nice accent with its bright greens. Older plants sprout between 40 and 50 leaves, making them beautifully dense.
In nature, Aponogeton ulvaceus is found in shaded, somewhat warmer flowing waters. During the dry season, the water level drops sharply, after which the plant goes dormant. It should also be allowed such a phase in the aquarium, when it stops growing or when the leaves die. To do this, please remove the tuber and place it in a sandy substrate. Keep moist. After about eight weeks out of the aquarium you can replant the tuber, it will sprout again.
