It is impossible to imagine an aquarium withouthoses. Without hoses, you quickly look old in the aquarium business. As a connection from the external filter to the aquarium and vice versa you need aqua hoses. For the safety of your aquarium fish, dwarf shrimp, crayfish, water snails and all other aquarium inhabitants, we carry here exclusively the high-quality aquarium hoses of the renowned manufacturer JBL, which are food-safe and do not release any harmful substances into the aquarium water. The hoses are suitable for freshwater aquariums, marine aquariums, invertebrate aquariums and also for aquaterrariums. JBL aquarium hoses are without soft PVC and therefore contain fewer plasticizers than competitor products.
Depending on your personal preference, you can choose the hose in green or gray - whichever is more inconspicuous in your aquarium setup. The coloration helps to reduce algae growth in the hose because less light reaches the algae. If the hose does "seal up" at some point, you can clean it out again with a special hose brush to keep the flow going.
The green and gray aquarium hoses are made of PVC. To make them flexible, they contain small amounts of plasticizers. These plasticizers are good food for bacteria, which therefore settle on the inside of new hoses in particular. For this reason, new hoses in particular should be cleaned regularly. Over time, the plasticizers become less and the hoses become clogged less often.
Especially with highly flexible hoses this phenomenon occurs more often. We only carry aquarium hoses without soft PVC, which do not release excessive amounts of plasticizers to the aquarium water and which are food safe.
If the hose is laid in a rather tight bend over the aquarium edge, there is a risk that it will kink and thus less water will get through. To counter this, there is the AntiKink device from JBL, which is simply clicked over the appropriate spot on the hose and protects it from kinking. If the length of the hose is kept as short as possible, the risk of kinking is significantly reduced.
Depending on the size of the filter connections, you need to choose the aquarium hose to fit. The hose size is indicated by two numbers separated by a slash. These are the inner diameter and the outer diameter of the hose. So a 9/12 mm size hose has an inner diameter of 9 and an outer diameter of 12 mm.
Common hose sizes for filters are 9/12 mm, 12/16 mm and 16/22 mm.
Air hoses are usually thinner, they have a size of 4/6 mm. In addition to green and gray air hoses, you can also buy silicone hoses in this size here in the online store. In addition to greater flexibility, these have the advantage of being transparent and even less noticeable in the aquarium than the green and gray air hoses. They are also free of plasticizers.
Please note that you need different hoses for carbon dioxide. Our aquarium hoses are airtight, but the smaller molecules of CO2 can partially escape through the hose wall under pressure. For CO2 fertilization in the aquarium, there are special CO2-tight hoses that you can find in the CO2 accessories category.
In addition to air hoses and filter hoses, we also carry plastic tubes from the well-known company Hobby in the online store. They are 1 meter long and available in different thicknesses. Very useful, for example, if you want to lay the filter outlet in large aquariums or make your own filter tubes.
