The fast-growing stem plant Bacopa australis is also called southern fat leaf. This beautiful, easy to care for and relatively undemanding aquarium plant from South America has a loosely bushy, somewhat more pleasing habit than many other relatively rigid Bacopa species. Its less fleshy leaves are an intense light green, with new shoots turning slightly reddish under plenty of light.
This InVitro grown Bacopa australis from Dennerle is grown in the lab and is therefore guaranteed to be free of snails, worms, small crustaceans and other critters, it will not bring any pathogens or algae. No pesticides are used in the cultivation of InVitro aquarium plants. You can plant this Bacopa australis directly into the aquarium after washing off the culture medium from the roots.
Bacopa australis grows to a height of about 10-40 cm, making it ideal for the middle ground of larger aquariums, the background of smaller aquariums and for nano aquariums. Under strong light , some of its shoots begin to grow creeping along the substrate.
As a fast-growing stem plant, Southern Butterwort is well suited to provide competition against troublesome algae and to utilize excess nutrients. The aquarium plant Bacopa australis needs to be cut back and shaped more often to keep its growth nice and bushy. Pruning is very well tolerated by the vigorous stem plant.
Cut shoots can be used as cuttings to propagate the southern butterwort and reinsert them into the substrate. You can also rejuvenate the plant groups in this way - to do this, cut off the upper third of the stem plant, take the old, ugly remains out of the ground and reinsert the younger shoots in their place.
Southern fatleaf will still grow properly under less light. Bacopa australis needs a good supply of micronutrients and macronutrients for particularly brilliant leaf colors. The fat leaf grows well without CO2 fertilization, but with CO2 of course even more beautiful and better.
You can also keep Bacopa australis emersed above water, then the plant grows creeping and quickly forms a dense carpet. Its flower is pale blue. The southern butterfly fits perfectly in your waterfall aquarium or paludarium, it is also great for Wabi Kusa, plant jars or for humid terrariums and for aquaterrariums.
