from over 3,000 reviews "Bacopa caroliniana - Tropica Pot (Background)
Bacopa caroliniana, also called large fat leaf or Carolina fat leaf, is a well known and popular hardy aquarium plant for many years. Here you buy a Bacopa caroliniana from Tropica, which has been cultivated in a pot.
The large fat leaf originates from North America. As a stem plant, Bacopa caroliniana grows more or less upright. The light green aquarium plant has small roundish, somewhat fleshy leaves that smell a little like lemon when you rub them between your fingers. If there is little nitrate and phosphate available to the plant in the aquarium water, the leaves will turn a bronze to light pink color, especially in the upper part of the stems.
With a growth height of about 30-60 cm, the relatively slow-growing for a stem plant Bacopa caroliniana is the perfect aquatic plant for the aquarium background. It also fits well in somewhat smaller aquariums. Pruning is tolerated very well. Bacopa caroliniana looks most beautiful as a group planting.
Bacopa caroliniana does not need to be pruned frequently due to its rather slow growth for a stem plant. Nevertheless, you can influence the growth habit by pruning. If they are trimmed regularly, these aquarium stem plants grow more branched. You can use the shoots that are always produced during pruning as head cuttings and use them to plant one or more new groups in your aquarium. To do this, simply stick the shoots of the butterwort into the substrate.
The Carolina butterwort Bacopa caroliniana needs a lot of light, but not too many nutrients. This beautiful aquarium plant is also not picky about water hardness. You can also cultivate it super well in aquariums without additional CO2 fertilization.
The adaptable Bacopa caroliniana can also be grown emersed. Out of the water it grows creeping. The flower is purple. Carolina fat leaf fits perfectly into the transition between water zone and land zone in large waterfall aqu ariums or paludariums, wabi kusa, plant jars and aquaterrariums. You can even put this all-rounder in the garden pond in summer. Especially in warmer areas of Germany, the Large Butterwort may even be hardy, provided the pond is deep enough and does not freeze completely.
Our recommendation: For magnificent plant growth, we recommend using the NatureHolic fertilizer series and for the new installation the premium nutrient medium NatureHolic GroundBooster.
