The Black Phantom Tetra, also known by the scientific name Hyphessobrycon megalopterus, is a schooling fish from South America. It is a good choice for beginners and is suitable for aquariums from 60 cm in length.
Its aquarium should be densely planted and have a pH of 6.2 to 7.5 and a water hardness of 4 to 15° dGH. The ideal temperature for the Black Phantom Tetra is between 22 and 30° Celsius.
It can be fed with commercial ornamental fish food and also frozen and live food and usually grows to about 4.5 cm in size. It is possible to breed the Black Phantom Tetra in the aquarium, although the pair must be removed after spawning. The current approximate size of this fish upon delivery is about 1.5-2.0 cm.
