from over 3,000 reviews "Water values: | soft to hard |
Difficulty: | for beginners |
Propagation: | possible in fresh water |
Origin: | Abroad offspring |
Coloring: | black blue |
The black-blue Blue Sapphire is a new variety of Neocaridina davidi, which originally comes from Asia. Both sexes are intensively blue colored, in some places even up to the legs and appear more or less bright blue depending on the aquarium lighting. In the aquarium they are uncomplicated and easy to keep, which makes them ideal for beginners.
As a robust and adaptable dwarf shrimp that can be found in different habitats, it therefore tolerates both soft and hard water. The waters from which it originates, however, always have high humic substance values, which is why the addition of humic substances in the aquarium, such as with our Crusta Humin has proven successful.
Mainly due to their size females and males already differ optically, because the latter remain in contrast to the partly already massive looking ladies rather a bit slimmer. They reach about 3 to 4 centimeters. If the animals feel well and all parameters fit together, breeding is possible without problems. About every 6 weeks the Blue Sapphire mate, whereupon the female carries out between 20 and 40 quite large eggs, from which fully developed young hatch, which are a miniature version of their parents and feed independently. Initially they are still hiding in layers of mulm and foliage in the aquarium and hardly move from the site of their hatching. Therefore brown autumn leaves are highly recommended, they also like to graze on them. The humic acids contained in it also support the well-being of the shrimp. Baby shrimp can be fed well with a dust food such as BabyFeed, as this reaches every shrimp in its hiding place. With increasing size, the Blue Sapphire will color more strongly.
As very peaceful aquarium inhabitants the great Blue Sapphire can be mixed without problems also with other shrimps, Snails and peaceful nano fishes, which are not too obtrusive, however they also crossbreed with other Neocaridina species. From this again new colors and patterns can develop, also the emergence of the wild color is possible, which should be sorted out consequently, if you want to keep the great color. To keep the great blue color it is recommended to keep the Blue Sapphire better only in the Artaquarium.
The pretty Blue Sapphire can already be maintained from 20 liters and attaches importance to company. 10-20 comrades may be put to it therefore calmly to the side, so that it feels well. As a substrate is a water-neutral variant suitable like Gravel or sand. Since they retreat especially during the important moulting phase, they should be offered hiding places in the aquarium in the form of caves, mosses but also dense plant stands in places.
The omnivorous Blue Sapphire is not choosy about food and also nibbles diligently on algae. Mainly it should be fed rather vegetable, especially brown foliage has proven itself in the shrimp aquarium as permanent food and hiding place. With our MainFeed the animals are well supplied, but twice a week they should be offered a high quality protein food.
Important note: Not every shrimp exhibits a dorsal stripe.
Our food recommendation: The soft Mainfeed Softpads from NatureHolic are designed for daily feeding. They contain all the nutrients shrimp need for shell development, egg formation and growth. During the production we pay attention to a gentle and environmentally friendly production, where the vitamins and other valuable ingredients are preserved as much as possible.
Our recommendation: Use NatureHolic InVitros for planting. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid when keeping invertebrates. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your invertebrates. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
