Like most of the epiphytic plants used in aquaristics, the rheophytes from the genus Bucephalandra from Borneo grow in the seasonally sometimes heavily flooded splash water. Most of the Bucephalandra are not yet exactly determined, for this reason they are listed as Bucephalandra sp. These easy to keep, very slow growing plants are still quite new to aquaristics, but have caught on quickly.
Bucephalandra forms strong adhesive roots, with which it can hold itself even in strong currents. The plants can also be kept permanently submerged and even bloom in the aquarium.
The narrow-leaved Bucephalandra "Valis Needle" does well even in the shade of other plants and does not require CO2 fertilization. With CO2 addition the growth rate increases, but it is not necessary. The plants will grow into nice groups over time.
Propagating the slow-growing Bucephalandra sp. "Valis Needle" is not difficult - just separate a piece of the rootstock and tie it on.
As a perching plant, Bucephalandra "Valis Needle" should not be planted in the substrate to prevent the rhizome from rotting. However, if the lateral roots grow into the soil, this is not a problem, only the rhizome is sensitive. Ideally, therefore, it grows tied up on roots or even on stones. Since the adhesive roots quickly grow firmly, Bucephalandra only needs to be fixed in the early days.
"Valis Needle" is also a class plant for a humid terrarium with high humidity, where it can also be cultivated on the land part.
It is possible that Bucephalandra "Valis Needle" will drop its leaves after delivery. It will sprout freshly afterwards, because it has to adapt its leaves to the new environment. Depending on the light intensity, the leaf shape may change.
Our recommendation: For a splendid plant growth we recommend the use of the NatureHolic fertilizer series and for new plants the Premium Nutrient Substrate NatureHolic GroundBooster.
Expert Tip: With the NatureHolic Plant Glue glue this plant gently and easily on stones, roots and decoration . Made in Germany, the adhesive does not pollute the water and has no negative impact on the stock.
