from over 3,000 reviews "The quite active capucchino snails belong to the species Faunus ater. These pretty large snails with the typical coloration from almost white to reddish brown to dark brown to almost black from the tip to the foot come from Southeast Asia, where they usually live just before or also in the brackish estuaries of larger rivers. Thus, they are accustomed to fluctuations in salinity, and even in pure fresh water, cappuccino snails are durable. Their final size is about 8 cm. Faunus ater is a rather uncomplicated and active snail, which hardly digs.
Cappucchino snails are bisexual, but the sexes look identical and cannot be distinguished. Veliger larvae hatch from the egg cocoons and are washed into the sea with the current, where they develop into snails. Therefore, Faunus ater cannot be propagated in freshwater aquariums.
Cappucchino snails do not eat aquatic plants, but they successfully consume algae deposits and other biofilms. They also readily accept food scraps, vegetables and of course special snail food .
The cappucino snail has no problems with peaceful fish and shrimp, and dwarf crayfish cannot harm it either because of its very thick, stable shell. Of course, it should not be kept together with snail eaters such as predatory snails or crabs and fish that specialize in snails.
