Female red fire shrimp (Neocaridina davidi), also known as red cherry, carry their 20 to 40 light to dark, but often bright sunny yellow eggs under their abdomen for three to four weeks until the young shrimp hatch. This is how long they devotedly care for their fry, fanning them with fresh water and preening them. Then small, fully developed shrimp hatch and are immediately on their own in the aquarium.
If you put an already pregnant female into the aquarium, you ensure on the one hand a greater genetic diversity right from the start, and on the other hand you have a larger group of shrimp together quite quickly. Both is advantageous for the animals. The hatching young animals are accustomed to the conditions in the aquarium from the beginning and do not have to adjust.
Red Cherry shrimp feel comfortable in a group, we recommend an initial stocking of 10 to 15 animals to avoid stress especially for egg bearing animals.
Natureholic Baby Food is an ideal rearing food for the small baby shrimp.
A detailed description about keeping and breeding can be found at our main description of the "Red Fire Shrimp".
