from over 3,000 reviews "The common horse chestnut originates from the Balkan area and was introduced to us only around 1576. It grows mainly in shady and relatively moist places, but can also adapt to brighter to sunny locations. The common horse chestnut can look back on several awards, in 2005 it was elected Tree of the Year, and in 2008 even Medicinal Plant of the Year.
The leaves of the common horse chestnut are interesting for aquaristics, they are characterized by the fact that they have a relatively long shelf life even under water and decompose comparatively slowly. This makes them predestined as vacation and/or vacation food for our little crawlers and snails.
The leaves of the horse chestnut, carefully collected by hand and then gently air-dried , are particularly rich in natural humic acids, flavonoids and tannins, which have been proven to have a positive influence on the health and well-being of our beloved little crawlers. Horse chestnut leaves serve as a source of food for the animals as well as a welcome shelter for young shrimp and pregnant, as well as freshly skinned females.
Horse chestnut leaves can initially float up in the aquarium, this can be prevented by weighing down the leaves with suitable aids, such as clay tubes or similar, or by briefly scalding them with hot water beforehand. By scalding the leaves slightly softened and shrimp and Co. it is easier to disassemble the leaves. Besides, the over-brewing of the chestnut leaves has a slightly antibacterial effect on the leaves.
A slight coloring of the water by the leaves is natural and completely harmless.
Use:
1 - 2 leaves per 15-25 liters of tank volume. The initially floating leaves sink to the bottom after a few days, where they can be left until complete decomposition. Leaves that have not decomposed can be removed after a few days.
