Glass bowls or shallow clay bowls are ideal feeding places for shrimp and dwarf crayfish. Dwarf shrimp and also dwarf crayfish are considered to be quite sloppy eaters that like to throw the food particles right and left of themselves as they enthusiastically nibble on a piece of food. These fine food particles usually like to land once in the substrate and seep between the gravel grains. In the long term, this can lead to rotting processes in the substrate and toxic substances can be released into the aquarium water. A glass or clay food bowl prevents this danger for the aquarium inhabitants, and your dwarf shrimps and dwarf crayfish can eat in peace without half of the food disappearing into the substrate. This is especially beneficial for the young animals, which can still reach fine food particles that would have long since seeped into the bottom without a food bowl, where they would only provide food for the trumpet snails. A clay bowl also offers a nice large surface on which pollutant-degrading and thus extremely useful bacteria can settle. This also improves the water quality!
Algae Plates, the dried leaves of the stinging nettle or dandelion leaves are just like spinach or green dried walnut leaves a very popular shrimp and snail food. Cucumber pieces or zucchini slices, tomato pieces or pumpkin pieces are also fond of shrimp and crayfish, and especially catfish, of course. However, these natural foods float on the surface of the water first. It can take time for them to sink, and during this time they are not available to the aquarium animals, but can negatively affect the water values. Ideally, weight these natural feeders down with a clay hook or (if their thickness allows) simply clamp them to the glass with a bracket or clamp and suction cup.
