Live food for young fish
When rearing young fish, it is almost impossible to imagine life without fine and finest live food - it is also possible without it, but the young fish develop much better and become more robust, healthier and more colorful when they are fed species-appropriate live food. For very small fish that are not yet able to eat Artemia nauplii, rotifers or saltwater rotifers are ideal as initial food. They are also very suitable for feeding young shrimps, young crabs and young crayfish.
Live food for dwarf shrimps
For dwarf shrimps live food is actually also optimally suitable, because it contains many important proteins and partly chitin and the moulting hormone ecdysone, but especially shrimps of the genus Neocaridina rarely actively hunt for swimming animals. Here, live food that sinks to the bottom, such as red mosquito larvae or Tubifex, is optimal. Also well suited is live food that is actually grown in saltwater: Artemia, Moina salina, seawater copepods or even mysis. These animals do not contain more salt inside than freshwater animals. Therefore, they can be fed without hesitation if you rinse them well in a sieve before adding them to the aquarium. In fresh water they die sooner or later and are then at the latest consumed by the shrimps. These animals moult - just like shrimps - and therefore contain, among other things, valuable ecdysone (the moulting hormone), cholesterol, calcium and chitin. These substances are urgently needed by shrimps, crabs and prawns for the molting process.
Store live food
Mosquito larvae do not reproduce in the aquarium. If you do not want to feed them all at once, you can store the bags in the refrigerator. There the metabolism of the animals slows down, they need less oxygen and no additional food. However, it is also possible to put the live food in a bowl with suitable water and store it in a cool place. Here you can then also feed carefully to further enhance the feed animals with suitable, valuable food such as spirulina powder. Some animals like Artemia, Enchyträen or Moina salina and Copepoden are even suitable for further breeding. Please note whether the animals are saltwater or freshwater animals and use only appropriate water for further propagation!
