Thanks to the small and rounded grain size of only 1-2 millimeters, you also protect the sensitive barbels of your bottom-dwelling fish such as Ancistrus or Corydoras. Shrimp and dwarf crayfish, as well as mussels and snails can also be optimally maintained on this gravel.
In the aquarium, the substrate represents the largest biological filter , on which useful purification bacteria settle and recycle waste. Thus, they contribute significantly to the improvement of water quality. The slate-gray quartz gravel does not affect the water values, because it is hardness-free, lightfast, CO2 resistant and water neutral. In combination with roots and other woods, but also with other gravel colors, you can easily create your own personal underwater fairy tale.
Especially when setting up new aquariums, it is advisable to add a nutrient substrate under the gravel right from the start. Subsequently, the entire aquarium would have to be taken apart. This slow-release fertilizer has a particularly beneficial effect on the plants used, as they form strong and vigorous roots and grow magnificently. Thus, the aquarium is optimally supplied with oxygen and pollutants are broken down more quickly - but also algae grow only sparsely.
We recommend this substrate setup:
Fill in approx. 2 cm of special nutrient substrate or another nutrient substrate and then cover with at least 3 cm of Dennerle crystal quartz gravel.
Before first use, the gravel should be washed out several times with cold water to remove abrasion caused by transport. By the way, you can find more colors in the store!
