from over 3,000 reviews "A very special snail in the aquarium is the devil's thorn snail Faunus ater, which is widely distributed Southeast Asia. The genus is monophyletic, which means that there is only one species in this genus. The devil's thorn snail impresses with its almost black body and the black, often coppery overpainted spiral shell. It can grow up to eight centimeters long and tapers to a point at the back. In nature, they are found in large numbers in the lower reaches of larger rivers and also in brackish estuaries, usually on muddy substrates. Although the Devil's Thorn Snail is separately sexual, it is not possible to distinguish males from females by external characteristics.
All in all, the Devil's Thorn Snail is very peaceful and gets along with other aquarium inhabitants without any problems, provided they do not eat snails. Aggressive fish, however, cause them to burrow into the bottom. It feels especially comfortable in an aquarium with a sandy bottom.
So far it has not been possible to breed the devil's thorn snail in the aquarium. In nature, the young are washed into the sea with the current, where they grow into juvenile snails, which then migrate back to the estuaries.
As for food, we feed Faunus ater with very great success with Natureholic snail feed. They also like to utilize food remains and dead plant parts and graze algae carpets. However, you should always feed the large snails as well. Although devil's thorn snails are always wild-caught, they are quite robust and uncomplicated and get used to the new living conditions in the aquarium very quickly.
Our food recommendation: With the Natureholic Snail Feed Power Paste you create a feeding lawn that is very well accepted by all aufwuchs feeding snails. Also delicate wild-caught snails such as racing snails or staghorn snails, which are stressed after transport and do not go to conventional food, can be fed up well with it.
Our plant recommendation: Use for the planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
Actively prevent outbreaks: With the invisible Natureholic Snail Barrier you prevent the escape and loss of your snails from the aquarium.
