Ceramic hiding places for shrimps, dwarf crayfish and crayfish and also for crabs are welcome decorative elements in the aquarium and terrarium. Moss-covered ceramic hiding places and moss cushions in the foreground significantly increase the surface area in the aquarium that can be colonized by bacteria. These bacteria take care of pollutants such as ammonia and nitrite in the water and reduce them. As a result, beautiful moss cushions contribute to good water quality and healthy aquarium animals. Greened ceramic hiding places can be bought ready-made, but you can also plant them yourself with moss.
Moss is not only good for a better water quality, the green cushions offer excellent hiding places especially for baby shrimps and young dwarf crabs. Moss cushions also look really nice and are great eye-catchers in the foreground of the aquarium and at the same time a really decorative ground cover, which looks very natural and brings a bit of original flair into the aquarium. To ensure that the moss really stays where it belongs, it has proven useful to tie the fine moss shoots onto flat round or square plates.
Moss is best tied on as follows: Wrap the nylon thread once around the cave or clay plate and tie a tight knot. Cut the moss shoots into pieces about 1-2 cm small and place them close together on the surface to be greened. Then hold the slab or cave along with the moss in your hand; your index finger will hold the moss in place. With your other hand, take the nylon thread and wrap tight coils (but not so tight that the moss shoots are laced through) around the cave a few millimeters apart. If you are binding a round nanocoin or a square ceramic plate with moss, change the direction every now and then while winding and wind the nylon thread not only lengthwise but also crosswise until the short moss threads sit quite tightly on the surface. Soon they will sprout sideways and after a very short time you will no longer be able to see the transparent nylon string under the moss.
Moss cushions are also suitable for feeding the juvenile shrimps in a targeted manner. For this you pull up in a syringe or pipette a mixture of water and for example a pinch of NatureHolic Babyfeed shrimp dust food. Then you spray the so dissolved dust food on the moss cushion. This way the filter cannot suck in the dust food and the baby shrimp will find many valuable food particles in their hiding place.
The ceramic decoration elements in this store category are handmade in Germany. Their surface is sculptured and allows the mosses to grow quickly.
