Fissidens fontanus - Tropica Portion
This feathery moss with tightly packed small deep green "downs" originates from northern America. It grows only 1-5 cm and is relatively slow growing and needs more light than other mosses.
Well suited for vertical and horizontal attachment to roots and stones in the aquarium.
Fissidensfontanus is also called phoenix moss , because its filigree fan-like soft "fronds" almost remind of a phoenix. Visually, its appearance clearly distinguishes it from other mosses and it has been known in aquaristics since about the end of the '90s. Thanks to its compact growth it is especially suitable for aquascaping, where it gives the hardscape a great depth effect and a dark green eye-catcher.
Fissidens fontanus is not necessarily more demanding in the aquarium than other mosses, but develops especially well in soft water aquariums with very good lighting and a good supply of nutrients . Especially the supply with a NPK fertilizer, but also with CO₂ has proven to be beneficial. Nevertheless, it can be maintained equally well in hard and cold water tanks. With a rather mediocre supply of micro and macro nutrients, however, it not only grows more slowly, it also loses its rich green color and the individual shoots develop rather wider.
Especially shrimps like to use the moss as a grazing ground, but also as a hiding place, so create a prime shrimp playground with the Fissidens fontanus, whose green harmonizes wonderfully with your colorful animals!
Our recommendation: For a splendid plant growth we recommend the use of the NatureHolic fertilizer series and for new setups the premium nutrient medium NatureHolic GroundBooster.
Expert Tip: With the NatureHolic plant glue you can glue this plant gently and easily to stones, roots and decoration . Made in Germany, the adhesive does not pollute the water and has no negative impact on the stocking.
