Garnelio - Weeping moss - Vesicularia ferriei - portion

With its overhanging growth, Weeping Moss looks somewhat like the branches of a weeping willow, which is why it is also called Weeping Moss or Weeping Willow Moss. Vesicularia ferriei originates from Southeast Asia. Ideally it is used in the foreground, where it can be cultivated on the ground (so it grows rather creeping). However, this moss looks especially pretty when attached or glued to roots or stones, where it can fully develop its charm. The overhanging growth looks a little like the cypress forests in the swamps of Florida, which captivate with their long hanging moss beards.

The weeping moss provides a great substrate for biofilms to colonize. It provides a nice place for beneficial filter bacteria to thrive. Moss in the aquarium always makes an important contribution to water quality. Baby shrimp love moss - here they always find something good to eat and massive hiding places.

Weeping moss should be shortened from time to time so that it grows compact and bushy. This is done by cutting back the shoots by half to one centimeter. The cut tips of the shoots can be used to plant new areas with Weeping Moss.

Weeping moss can also be cultivated emersely as long as the humidity is high enough. In the terrarium it grows rather creeping, not overhanging.
