It is a very special aquarium inhabitant with its beautiful colors and very individual patterns, which can also change completely when the water values change. Their shells, up to 2 cm in size, can be yellow, reddish, olive green, light or reddish brown or orange-red in color, with black, gray or yellow stripes, lines or dotted patterns. Some snails also have small horn-like appendages on the shell. There are males and females in this bisexual snail - but you can't tell the difference from the outside.
The female snails lay egg cocoons from which larvae hatch. In nature, they are drifted to the sea, where they grow into snails, which then return to the streams close to the sea. These larvae do not survive in the aquarium, and this species has not yetbeen bred incaptivity.
The extremely peaceful sun snail is very active and grazes algae deposits and growth from the aquarium glass and decoration all day long. Especially in the beginning it will not eat artificial food. It can starve in the aquarium if there is not enough algae. To prevent this, a special snail food should be given. Also brown autumn leaves are grazed very gladly.
With other peaceful aquarium inhabitants the sun snail has no problems. Only with snail eaters they should not be socialized, of course. Their shell shape ensures that even curious fish, which like to pluck once in a while, cannot cause any damage.
Like all other staghorn snails, the sun snail prefers water with a pH above 6.5, and it likes a carbonate hardness above 3.
