The pretty coal barb is also known by other names such as Puntius fasciatus or Barbus fasciatus and originates from southern India. In the meantime it is scientifically called Haludaria fasciatus. With its great appearance it lives up to its name and looks especially attractive among green water plants.
Glow coal barbs grow to about 15 cm and have the typical high back and two barbels. In the basic color they are beige to green with a dark back and a light belly. On their body there are three to five black cross bands which are more or less pronounced. Occasionally they have a reticulated pattern on their flanks due to their black edged scales. Their fins are red, and the anal and dorsal fins may also be black-edged.
Because your darlings come from flowing waters, you should also offer them some current in the aquarium. This may have an edge length of 150 cm and be densely planted at the edges and in the background in places. Also offer them a sandy bottom, so that they do not hurt their whiskers when digging. With roots and stones you can also create a great infrastructure for them. They get their strength from the group size, so give them their group with at least 10 comrades . With water changes you can intensify the color expression of the males.
Breeding of these free spawners is rather difficult and almost more by chance, so you don't have to worry about a baby glut. You can also socialize the peaceful barbs with other fish if they do not have long fins, tetras, danios or even catfish are well suited for this. Shrimp run the risk of being eaten and crayfish may catch and pinch them.
Offer your omnivorous glow-in-the-dark barbs a more animal-based menu of live and frozen foods, they will also take granules or dry foods well. From time to time you should give them some vegetable variety with overboiled vegetables.
Our food recommendation: The NatureHolic Main Feed is a professional staple food for all aquarium fish. We supply Hauptfeed in the form of a soft granulate, which thanks to its grain size of half a millimeter can be easily ingested by small to medium-sized fish. The soft consistency resembles the texture of insect larvae in nature and protects the fish mouth from micro-injuries.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend when keeping fish the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
