The handsome gold-fronted armored catfish is especially eye-catching with its namesake golden spot on its head. Similar to its relative, the head banded cat fish, it also has a pretty black band that stretches across the eye, as well as a black longitudinal band above the back. The Adolfos Cory Catfish also originates from South America and is quite uncomplicated to maintain.
This small bottom dweller cleans up in the aquarium among other things with food remains and needs caves, root structures and hiding places, which you can also create with coconut caves or clay pots and catfish tubes. The tank should be at least 80 cm long and have a sand-gravel mixture so that your burrowing co-inhabitant does not injure his whiskers. Alternatively offer him a sand corner. Because it constantly visits the water surface to breathe, this should be freely accessible and the aquarium should be covered. You can also darken the surface with floating plants or dim the lighting a little, so that it feels comfortable, then you get to see it especially often.
Maintain these great comrades best in a group, because they are very sociable, at least 2 buddies you should give them. You can also keep them together with other peaceful fish like livebearers, tetras, danios or loricariids. You can also keep them together with dwarf shrimps or amano shr imps. However, you should better do without crayfish.
You can also breed them in the aquarium, motivate them with water changes and live food. The females are usually a bit bigger and fuller than the males. They lay their eggs on plant leaves, which hatch after some time and you can raise them with Artemia nauplii.
You can feed this omnivore simple and uncomplicated, but make sure that it is balanced and varied. He eats the food remains of his fellow fish, but also scalded vegetables, catfish tablets and food chips as well as live and frozen food such as Artemia, Daphnia, mosquito larvae or Tubifex.
Our food recommendation: The NatureHolic Catfish Feed for all aufwuchs feeding sucking catfish in the aquarium is a balanced tablet food, which does not cloud the water and the fish like to eat. The catfish tablets also contain NatureHolic active ingredient complexes that provide sucking catfish with everything they need for a strong immune system, healthy growth and great, contrasting coloration. As snack, supplementary food or vacation food we recommend the CatfishPlates.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend when keeping fish the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
