This great colored ornamental fish is a breeding form of the Mourning Tetra(Gymnocorymbus ternetzi) from South America, where it occurs in the Rio Paraguay and the Guaporé. The Golden Mourning Tetra Gymnocorymbus ternetzi "gold" is a sociable and very peaceful aquarium fish. This high-backed tetra remains quite small at only 5.5 cm. The males remain again quite a bit smaller than the females. Golden Mourning Tetras have no markings, their body color is a golden pink.
Gymnocorymbus ternetzi "gold" is a peaceful and social group fish, which feels comfortable in the security of a school of conspecifics. This is especially important when stressed. Relaxed Golden Mourning Tetras can also be found standing individually in the plants or swimming in small groups. A group size of 10 Golden Mourning Tetras is in any case not too small.
In a separate breeding aquarium Gymnocorymbus ternetzi 'gold' can be bred quite easily. The Golden Mourning Tetra is a free spawner and the parent fish are quite spawn predators. The females of the Golden Mourning Tetra spawn in slightly acidic and soft to medium hard aquarium water with a pH value of about 6 and at a water temperature of about 23-28 °C. The breeding aquarium should be clean and clean water. The breeding aquarium should be clean and well planted. A spawning grid or large pebbles spread along the bottom will prevent the breeding pair from eating the eggs. A female Golden Mourning Tetra spawns about 300 eggs. After spawning, catch the adult fish out so the young fry can grow up safely. Golden Mourning Tetra larvae hatch after 1-2 days and swim free after about 3 days. The fry are best fed with fine foods such as rotifers and artemia euplii.
This pretty rose gold schooling fish will fit in aquariums with an edge length of 60 cm or more. With other peaceful fish in the community aquarium he gets along very well. It is also conceivable to keep it with dwarf crayfish, because the Golden Mourning Tetra mainly lives in the middle to upper water layers. Small shrimp babies can possibly be eaten, the Golden Mourning Tetra does not approach adult shrimps.
This beautiful breeding form needs a dense marginal planting as a retreat possibility in the aquarium, in the middle the ornamental fish should also find swimming space, so that they can also give gas sometimes. Gymnocorymbus ternetzi "gold" copes very well with soft to hard water in the aquarium and is considered a very adaptable aquarium fish. The water temperatures in the aquarium should be between 21 and 28 °C.
The pretty, interestingly colored Golden Mourning Tetra is a typical omnivore. In the wild it eats approach food such as insects as well as insect larvae and small crustaceans living in the water. In addition, it plucks at algae coverings from time to time. In the aquarium it accepts a high-quality flake food or granulated food for small omnivorous fish well. From time to time the menu of the Golden Mourning Tetra should be supplemented with Live food and Frozen food should be upgraded.
Our food recommendation: This NatureHolic main feed is a professional staple food for all aquarium fish. Main feed we supply in the form of soft granules, which thanks to its grain size of half a millimeter can be easily absorbed by small to medium-sized fish. The soft consistency resembles the texture of insect larvae in nature and protects the fish mouth from micro-injuries.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free from algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
