Green Laser Cory DNZ - Corydoras spec. neon greenstripe

The beautiful Green Laser Corydoras sp. "neon greenstripe" or Green Stripe Corydoras belongs to the luminescent stripe Corydoras and is related to the metal Corydoras aeneus. However, the Green Laser or Green Line Corydoras belongs to another undescribed species and is also listed as CW009. The Green Stripe Corydoras comes from Peru, more precisely from the catchment area of the Rio Ucayali and lives in the wild in black water streams. This cory is characterized by its unusual color: on a green golden ground the CW009 shows a broad dark longitudinal stripe along the midline, above this there is a long bright green to green golden intense longitudinal stripe, below the dark stripe a shorter less intense luminous stripe can be seen. The fins are greenish golden to greenish yellow transparent. At the mouth Corydoras sp. "neon greenstripe" has the pairs of barbels typical for a Corydoras.

The males of the Green Neonstripe Corydoras CW009 remain rather slender and grow only about 5 cm in size. The females are a bit bulkier and grow up to 6 cm long. The Green Laser Corydoras is a very sociable and social group fish, which always needs the company of the same Corydoras and should always live in a group of at least 5-10 animals. As a bottom fish, the Green Laser Coryfish prefers the lower area of the aquarium and occasionally goes up because, as an intestinal breather, it needs to be at the water surface to breathe. Corydoras therefore always need free access to the water surface.

Like all Corydoras, the Green Stripe Cory is a very peaceful and sociable small Cory, which also gets along well with other aquarium fish and fits perfectly into a community tank - if the by-fish themselves are rather small to medium sized and also peaceful. The Green Laser Catfish is a sociable and social fish that should always be kept in a group. A socialization of Corydoras with shrimps is well possible - maybe once a small shrimp is accidentally eaten, but basically Corydoras do not actively hunt for the small crabs. A socialization with crabs or shrimps is not recommended for the Green Laser Corydoras, because the shrimps can hurt or even eat the fish.

The Green Laser Catfish can reproduce in the aquarium (and depending on the stocking even in the community aquarium) and is successfully bred in the aquaristics. A separate breeding aquarium with soft water is recommended for selective breeding. The Corydoras are fed with especially rich live food and high-quality frozen food for breeding preparation. Together with cooler water changes, this stimulates spawning readiness and triggers courtship. The female of Corydoras sp. "green neonstripe" spawns after the mating ritual and attaches about 100 sticky eggs individually to all possible surfaces in the aquarium, preferably to the glass. The small armored catfish larvae need only a few days to hatch, depending on the temperature. Then the parents are put back into their own aquarium so that they do not eat the young fish. The Green Laser Catfish babies are fed with Artemia nauplii or rearing dust food.

The Green Laser Cory can reach an age of 8 to 10 years with good care. At a water temperature of 22-26 °C Corydoras sp. "green neonstripe" feels comfortable in soft to medium hard water and a pH between 6 and 7. The aquarium should have a length of about 80 cm for a small group of 5-10 animals. Sandy substrate or a sandy corner are advantageous for keeping Corydoras, because here the Corydoras have the opportunity to search for their food like in nature - they dig, which looks very funny. Corydoras are grateful for hiding places in the form of caves and shelters under roots and stones.

The Green Laser Cory is an omnivore with a clear preference for animal foods. Sinking live food (especially worms) and frozen food it takes gladly, but these Corydoras also eat plant remains and algae. Suitable for species-appropriate feeding of Corydoras sp. "Green Neonstripe" are especially special feeding tabs for Corydoras sp., but also quite normal, commercially available flake food or granulated food for all omnivores among the aquarium fish in the community aquarium.
