The female Guppy Red Blond is a special colored variety of the South American Poecilia reticulata. The varied and bright colors, as well as the easy keeping and care make Guppies popular aquarium fish that never go out of fashion. Even more so their "reproduction mania" earned them the name million fish. This makes them particularly interesting for those interested in heredity. However, since this joy of reproduction can also end quite fast in an overpopulated aquarium, you acquire here a pure female group. Of course we also carry the matching males in our store, should you decide to breed them after all. However, the charm of a pure "girl group" is not lost, especially the consideration of the further accommodation of the young animals is omitted.
The variant Red Blond stands out above all by its intensive orange-red fins, whose color partly continues over the body. With up to 10 centimeters Guppy females can also become very large. In contrast to the males, which tend to stay smaller, they do not become quite as intensely colored as the latter and also tend to have a sail-shaped anal fin instead of a mating organ.
These live-bearing tooth carps can also mate with the Endler Guy and hybridize. However, this mongrel mash should be prevented if possible by not keeping these two together in the same aquarium. Guppies are peaceful, bright and lively social fish that value their group above all else. Therefore, you should keep them at least in groups of five to make them feel comfortable. Especially in aquariums with mixed-sex Guppies, a natural predator, apart from the parents, can be quite helpful to keep a juvenile fish population somewhat in check. For socialization are therefore also excellent Tetras, Platies, Mollies, but also Loricariids or Corydoras. but they can be brought together great. With well reproducing Dwarf shrimpsbut also with Amano shrimps or Fan shrimps with the same requirements the Guppies can also be socialized without problems. However, dwarf crayfish can pinch the soft fins of guppies sleeping on the bottom, which is why such a socialization is rather not recommended.
Guppies are mainly at home in the middle to upper water zone and eat in their natural habitat among other things flying insects, they land on the water, but also algae deposits and decomposing plant material. In the aquarium, therefore, they clean up with it and can be easily fed with any conventional dry food such as granules of flakes. Also scalded vegetables such as cucumber, Peppers or Pumpkin may not be missing in their menu. They are pleased however also, if they now and then Live- or Frozen food get.
In their natural habitats Guppies live in medium to hard water and sometimes even brackish water with a rather low salt content. At room temperature the Red Blond Guppies can be kept without problems, a water temperature between 22-28°C is optimal. You only need a heater if the water temperature is permanently below 22°C.
Our food recommendation NatureHolic Guppyfeed is a fine soft granulate with 0.5 mm grain thickness, which is suitable as a staple food for all aquarium fish and especially for guppies. The soft consistency of the food beads is reminiscent of that of natural insect larvae. It protects the sensitive fish mouth from micro injuries caused by hard or sharp-edged food. In addition to animal food, guppies also need a vegetable component in their diet. As special additives we add garlic extract and the leaf powder of the miracle tree Moringa olifera to NatureHolic Guppyfeed. These herbal additives are attributed positive effects on the immune system and the colorfulness of the colorful fish.
Our plant recommendation: For planting, use NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
