The variant Snake Green among the guppies belongs to the species of Poecilia reticulata, which originally comes from South America. Especially in the popular aquarium hobby guppy is widely known and popular. It is also called million fish. It is difficult to meet aquarists who have not yet had a Guppy, because it is one of the easy-to-care entry-level fish. Especially for their very good reproduction the animals are sufficiently known. Therefore you can order a pure female group here. Those with breeding ambitions will of course find the matching males in the store. Since Guppies are generally very sociable animals, you should keep them in groups, but they lack nothing if this is only same-sex.
Even though females are generally a bit less intensely colored than males, the Shake Green female Guppy is still gaudy: on top of her silver-gray body base color, she has a variegated dorsal and caudal fin that is greenish-yellow with lots of black speckles. Slightly this color may also show on the caudal peduncle. They can be easily identified especially by the black pregnancy spot behind the stomach pit, they also grow much larger than the males, almost reaching a size of 9 cm.
Guppies live-bearing toothcarps- a female guppy can give birth to up to 20 live young around once a month. In doing so, once fertilized, she can store the male's sperm and continue to fertilize herself for up to a year. This is also the reason why even in an all-girl community there are unexpected offspring every now and then. If you keep males and females of the Guppies, you have to expect a lot of offspring. Although guppies will also eat their own young, keeping them with another species of fish that will eat young guppies is not necessarily a bad idea. In well planted aquariums, enough guppy babies will still come up.
Endlers and Guppies interbreed and in turn produce fertile hybrids. They should not be kept together in the same aquarium. However, they are perfect for a great community aquarium with other peaceful and lively fish. With other lively and peaceful fish such as Tetras, Platies, Mollies, but also Loricariids or Corydoras they can be brought together great. With dwarf shrimp species that reproduce well, but also with the popular Amana shrimp or fan shrimp with similar requirements to the water hardness and the temperature in the aquarium a socialization can succeed. Crayfish, on the other hand, like to nip the curious guppies in the fins, injuring them if they don't eat them whole right away.
Shake Green Guppies are fish of the upper water layers, which in the biotope in nature like to feed on approach food on the water surface, but also eat insect larvae, algae cover or decomposing plant material. In the aquarium, the uncomplicated guppies are not fussy. In addition to commercially available dry food(flakes or granules), they also like to eat special guppy food. They also like to pick off algae coverings and like frost food and live food such as Artemia, Daphnia or Mosquito larvae they also like soft scalded green food or vegetables like cucumber, Peppers or pumpkin.
In nature Poecilia reticulata lives in habitats with rather hard or medium hard water and also in waters near the coast with light brackish water. In the aquarium they also prefer rather hard water and an aquarium temperature of 22-28 °C. A heater is not necessarily needed.
Our food recommendation NatureHolic Guppyfeed is a fine soft granulate with 0.5 mm grain thickness, which is suitable as a staple food for all aquarium fish and especially for guppies. The soft consistency of the food beads is reminiscent of that of natural insect larvae. It protects the sensitive fish mouth from micro injuries caused by hard or sharp-edged food. In addition to animal food, guppies also need a vegetable component in their diet. As special additives we add garlic extract and the leaf powder of the miracle tree Moringa olifera to NatureHolic Guppyfeed. These herbal additives are attributed positive effects on the immune system and the colorfulness of the colorful fish.
Our plant recommendation: For planting, use NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
