The "Koi Kohaku" also belongs to the species Poecilia reticulata and originates from South America. Thanks to its diverse colors and quite undemanding attitude, guppies have always enjoyed great popularity in aquaristics. For most it was the "entry fish" into the wet hobby. Their high propensity to reproduce is notorious, so here in the store you can also purchase a pure male group. The attraction of a same-sex group is not lost, on the other hand you can feast your eyes on the sight of these wonderful animals without worrying about the further accommodation of the surplus offspring. Guppies can be socialized excellently and bring "life in the joint" by their temperament. Ambitious breeders of the Koi Kohaku can of course also buy the suitable females here.
The Koi Kohaku is a breeding variety. "Kohaku" refers to a light base color with markings on the back going over the head. Males of the Koi Kohaku have a silvery to pinkish base color. The dorsal and caudal fins are orange in color, and the rest are transparent. The eye may be red. The males are more intensely colored, whereas the females are the same color as the breeding target. They grow about 4-5 cm long, their anal fin is transformed into the gonopodium, the mating organ.
The viviparous toothcarps can mate with other Guppies, including the Endler Guppy. This in turn creates fertile hybrids, which is why these two species should not be kept together. Fish with similar requirements can be kept together with the Koi Kohaku. Especially in aquariums with mixed-sex Guppies a "natural predator" can be advantageous to keep the juvenile numbers of this million fish somewhat in check. However, their own parents may well occupy this position as well. This can be prevented by keeping only males or only females . Guppies can easily be kept with well reproducing Dwarf shrimp speciesbut also Amano shrimps and fan shrimps , as long as they have the same demands on their water parameters. It is not advisable to keep them with dwarf crayfish, as they can pinch the fins of the fish, which sometimes sleep on the bottom. On average, a female Guppy gives birth to 20 live fry per litter, but in well-planted aquariums this number can be higher.
Guppies stay in the middle to upper water zone and feed in their natural habitat, among other things, on approaching insects, but also on algae cover and decaying plant material. They can be fed in the aquarium with commercially available dry foods such as granules or flakes, but occasionally also with soft, over-scalded vegetables and greens. They are also happy to have their diet occasionally spiced up with live and frozen foods .
The Guppy's natural habitats have medium to hard water, sometimes even brackish water with a low salt content. They can be kept at room temperature without any problems, a temperature between 22-28°C is optimal, therefore a heater is not necessarily needed.
Our food recommendation: The fragrant NatureHolic Guppyfeed was tailor-made for the needs of guppies and other viviparous fish in the aquarium. In addition to high-quality animal ingredients, it also contains vegetable components that benefit guppies & co. The soft granules protect the sensitive mouth of the viviparous from injuries caused by hard food grains and provide the fish with a natural feeding experience.
Our plant recommendation: For planting, use NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
