Neon Red Tuxedo Guppy males are truly beautiful to behold as they swim just below the surface of the water, glistening iridescently in rainbow colors. This live-bearing tooth carp, which belongs to the species Poecilia reticulata, originates from South America. Because of the many great color variations, the very undemanding attitude and the simple reproduction Guppies were and are for almost every aquarist once the first fish, with which everyone has earned the first spores. But also ambitious breeders' hearts beat up to their chest when new color morphs conquer the aquaristics. Since the Guppy is not without reason also called million fish, we offer here a pure male group. The advantage of this is that the reproductive rage is completely contained and the animals are much more relaxed and also have a longer life span, in contrast to the constant courtship and defense. Guppies are also excellent to socialize and bring "life into the joint" by their temperament.
The Neon Red Tuxedo Guppy is a colored breeding variety. Tuxedo refers to the dark coloration, which is reminiscent of a tuxedo. This can shimmer in rainbow colors depending on the incidence of light. The dorsal fin and also the caudal fin are neon red. At about 4-5 cm, the males remain somewhat smaller than the roundish females, which grow up to 6 cm, and in turn do not develop such intense colors as their male representatives. Males also have a sexual appendage under the abdomen, the gonopodium converted to a mating organ instead of the anal fin. This makes it very easy to distinguish between slightly older juvenile guppies in particular.
The live-bearing toothcarps can mate with other guppies, including the Endler Guppy. This in turn produces fertile hybrids, which is why these two species should not be kept together. Fish from the same or similar water parameters can be well socialized with Neon Red Tuxedo Guppy males. Primarily in aquariums with both sexes, a "natural predator" is beneficial to keep juvenile numbers somewhat in check.
On average, a female Guppy gives birth to 20 live fry per litter, but in well-planted aquariums this number may be higher. However, their own parents can also be prone to predation. You can prevent uncontrolled reproduction by keeping only males or only females.
Neon Red Tuxedo Guppies do not make great demands on their new home and can be kept well in 54 liter aquariums. They tolerate soft to hard water with a temperature between 22-28 °C. Nevertheless, the tank may be densely planted in places, so that the animals can withdraw for recreation.
Red Neon Tuxedo Guppy males can be kept without problems also with well reproducing dwarf shrimp species and Amano shrimp as well as fan shr imp, provided that they have the same demands on their water parameters. Dwarf shrimps are not recommended for socialization, as they can pinch the soft fins of the fish, which sometimes sleep on the bottom.
In their natural habitat these omnivores stay in the middle to upper water zone and feed among other things on approaching insects, but also on algae deposits and decaying plant material. They can be fed in the aquarium with commercially available dry food such as granulated food or flake food for omnivorous fish, but occasionally also with soft, scalded vegetables and also vegetable chips. Occasionally they may also be given live food or frozen food such as mosquito larvae, enchytrae, artemia, grindalworms or daphnia.
Our food recommendation: The fragrant NatureHolic Guppyfeed was tailor-made for the needs of guppies and other viviparous fish in the aquarium. In addition to high-quality animal ingredients, it also contains vegetable components that benefit guppies & co. The soft granules protect the sensitive mouth of the viviparous from injuries caused by hard food grains and provide the fish with a natural feeding experience.
Our plant recommendation: For planting, use NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
