Contrary to what the name suggests, Hygrophila sp. "Araguaia" probably does not originate from Brazil, but from Asia. There are studies according to which this could be Hygrophila lancea. This aquatic friend grows broadly bushy and with plenty of light even creeping, with prostrate, well-branched shoots, which makes it particularly interesting for aquascaping and plant aquaristics.
The leaves of Hygrophila sp. "Araguaia" are very narrow and rather long, the color is red-brown with a light midrib. Since this aquatic friend does not grow that tall at 10-20 cm, it can even be used in the foreground of larger aquariums as a color accent, but it will also fit in the middle ground to background, depending on the aquarium size.
Hygrophila "Araguaia" grows rather medium fast and has higher demands on culture conditions than other water friend species. It needs a lot of light and a good supply of CO2, which should be realized with a CO2 system. Hygrophila "Araguaia" tolerates regular pruning very well, the plant then branches even better and becomes beautifully dense.
The shoots produced by pruning can be used to propagate the plant as head cuttings in the bottom of the aquarium, where they quickly grow.
This Araguaia water friend is grown in meristem culture in the laboratory. Like all inVitro grown aquarium plants, it is suitable without quarantine even for aquariums with sensitive stock such as dwarf shrimp - simply rinse the nutrient substrate from the roots under cold running water and insert. InVitro Aquarium Plants are guaranteed to be free of algae, bacteria, snails and creepy-crawlies, and of course, absolutely free of pollutants.
Our recommendation: For a splendid plant growth we recommend the use of the NatureHolic fertilizer series and for new setups the Premium Nutrient Substrate NatureHolic GroundBooster.
