The very easy to care for Indian water friend Hygrophila polysperma is an ideal aquarium plant for beginners. It is very undemanding and can be kept from hard to very soft water, without CO2 fertilization and even under low light. On the other hand, the Indian Water Lily feels just as comfortable in high-tech aquariums with lots of light and a very good nutrient supply and grows very well under these conditions as well. Under strong light the shoot tips turn reddish brown, otherwise the oval leaflets of the Indian Water Lily are a bright light green.
The Indian Water Friend branches willingly and grows quite tall with about 40-60 cm, so it fits well in the background of a larger planted aquarium. The extremely fast growing stem plant tolerates pruning very well, even frequent trimming is not bad. It is very easy to make it into an attractive bush in the middle ground by appropriate pruning, because it branches out many timeswith each pruning and thus becomes beautifully dense.
The cut shoots are simply replanted to propagate the plant and then quickly take root.
Due to its extremely fast growth of up to 10 cm per week, Hygrophila polysperma is an ideal competitor to algae, from which it steals the nutrients as a heavy consumer.
This Indian Water Lily comes from the laboratory. As an InVitro culture it is free of algae, pathogens, pollutants and parasites. Please only rinse the nutrient gel from the roots before using your new aquarium plant.
Our recommendation: For magnificent plant growth, we recommend Premium Nutrient Soil when setting up a new aquarium: NatureHolic GroundBooster
