Freshwater fish for your aquarium

A big topic in aquaristics is the community aquarium with tropical ornamental fish. As fascinating as the small colorful shrimp may be - many aquarists find a pure shrimp aquarium with dwarf shrimp living on the bottom and on surfaces alone a bit too quiet in the long run. Lively fish bring life into the tank. In this category in our online store you will find beautiful small to large, colorful or monochromatic aquarium fish for species tanks and community tanks to buy, many of them (but not all) also well suited for keeping with shrimp, fish for beginners in aquaristics or for advanced aquarists. You can find a lot of info on keeping different aquarium fish in our blog section"Ornamental fish". We recommend the fish food from Natureholic.

Fish for the aquarium

A fish aquarium is still the classic form. Most often, aquarists have a community aquarium at the start, which provides a nice atmosphere in the living room and brings a piece of nature into the home four walls. Often shrimp or crayfish are also associated here, but of course you can also enjoy a pure fish aquarium. More special are then species tanks or themed aquariums, for example, only with fish from South America or Africa. Here in Garnelio's store you can find fishes that are well suited for beginners as well as fishes for specialists and rarities for the real connoisseurs. In this category of our online store you will find a huge selection of ornamental fish for aquarium to buy.

Origin of our aquarium fish

The ornamental fish sold by Garnelio in our store are sent to you directly from the wholesaler. This is much less stressful for the animals, because there is no need to ship them to the store, so they have one less stopover and one less time to get used to different water values. Our fish are healthy and are kept professionally until they are shipped. The shipping is done with a special shipping service provider for animal transport. All this reduces stress and has a positive effect on the health of your beautiful future aquarium inhabitants. In full detail, we explain the advantages and disadvantages in our blog article"Ordering fish online - pros and cons".

An overview of our aquarium fish

there are an incredible number of different aquarium fish! Very popular, for example, are the livebearers (including the popular colorful and reproductive, robust guppies, platies, swordtails and mollies, but also rarer ornamental fish such as the tiny dwarf carpets or the beautiful, unusually beflosste, colorful glittering sail carps) and the large group of cichlids (from South America - whose keeping we explain in more detail in the blog "Dwarf cichlids from South America" - or the beautiful cichlids from Africa, for example from Lake Malawi or Lake Tanganyika).
But here in the store you will also find the rather lesser known, but no less beautiful and easy to keep spike fish species (well-known representatives here are the rainbow fish and the blue eyes).

Also among the most popular aquarium fishes: the impressively colored large-finned fighting fish Betta splendens, which belongs to the labyrinth fishes just like the gourami (blog post here: "Successfully keep & breed gourami"), as well as macropods and so on.
Furthermore, we carry many representatives from the large group of danios, among which you can find especially many representatives of the nanofish, which are well compatible with dwarf shrimp (more about nanofish can be found in our blog post "The Nanofish Encyclopedia") and of course a rich selection of tetras from Africa and South America - colorful, lively schooling fish that enrich the aquarium incredibly and without which a South America aquarium is simply unthinkable.
Rather something for specialists are the magnificent killifishes, or egg-laying toothcarps, which attract attention by their special way of reproduction and their unusually bright, vivid colors - but even here there are well-suited species for beginners, which you can of course buy in Garnelio's online store. Among the barbs there are many old acquaintances, true classics of aquaristics, but also rarer representatives that fit just as well into the aquarium as the proven species. You will find real rarities in the section of bone tongues - they are very special fish with special requirements, but not less fascinating (rather more) than other ornamental fish.

We also have a rich selection of catfishes for you to buy: Funny armored catfish that scurry around at the bottom of the aquarium, algae and growth-eating lesser catfish and L catfish, popular all-around species like the Antenna catfish, but also very rare and wonderfully drawn lesser catfish that you won't find in at least every second aquarium. Among the featherbeard catfishes there are also very interesting representatives, and also other catfishes, which do not fit in one of the mentioned groups, you can find here in the online store for your aquarium.
We explain how to keep the funny, unusually shaped puffer fish in our blog post "Puffer fish in the aquarium". Gobies for the aquarium can be found in our store as well as spiny eels, and we also have a nice selection of various loaches for you to choose from.  In addition to the well-known, funny spiny lo aches, you will also find the loaches popular as snail eaters and other loaches, including algae eaters such as the sucking loach.
Not a fish, but still a great aquarium animal: the clawed frog. You can also find these funny fellows for sale here in Garnelio's online store.

In the 'Other Fish' section you will also find attractive ornamental fish that do not belong to any of the above categories, but are nevertheless fascinating and beautiful. For the fishes available in the store you will not only find partly detailed information about keeping, breeding and feeding in our popular blog, but also in the respective item description.

Inserting ornamental fish in the aquarium

when putting ornamental fish into the aquarium, there are a few things to keep in mind so that the stress for the animals is kept within limits. Stressed fish are more likely to get sick, so you should be careful and patient. In the blog post "Tips for acclimating fish to the aquarium" we give valuable advice on the subject, reading is worthwhile!

Feeding ornamental fish - choosing the right fish food

ornamental fish have very different feeding habits. We at Garnelio have taken a close look at what each group of fish eats in nature, and have specifically produced tasty foods of the highest quality for our flossy aquarium friends - our NatureHolic fish food is tailor-made to their needs and contains only valuable and high-quality ingredients that can promote the health of the fish, their colorfulness and vitality. Only the best for the flossies in the aquarium!

Offspring of the fish - the aquarium fish breeding

some fish like the livebearers reproduce willingly in the aquarium, others however (for example many tetras like it a little more special and need a separate breeding aquarium. In the case of fish breeding it is often aggravating that the parents eat their spawn or the hatched fish larvae, therefore separate breeding tanks are not only recommended for many species, but downright indispensable. These species also have the advantage that there is no uncontrolled reproduction in the aquarium.

Conclusion

an aquarium without fish is unthinkable for many aquarists and seems incomplete. With a fish aquarium you can get an impression of the life of aquatic creatures, which are rather foreign to us purely from the living world and therefore all the more fascinating. A piece of nature in the living room - it is completed by water plants and of course by colorful, lively fish that play in the plants, hunt, court, eat, discuss rankings and get along again. In addition, there are also fish with additional benefits in the aquarium ... Algae eaters, snail exterminators, substrate cleaners ... and at the same time they are also great to watch!
