Snails and their keeping in the aquarium
Snails can be kept without problems already from a tank volume of 10 liters. They require little care and are therefore ideally suited for small nano aquariums, even in the nursery. Because it is a lot of fun for children to watch the colorful snails and are therefore particularly suitable for the offspring of aquaristics. But they are not only pretty to look at but also clean the aquarium. They graze algae from the aquarium glass for hours and eat food remains left by other aquarium inhabitants. The aquarium can be designed according to their preferences, since the snails are not very demanding.
Putting snails in the aquarium
When putting snails in the aquarium, you should be patient, as with all other aquarium inhabitants, because they can only slowly get used to the new aquarium water. To do this, simply place the snails with the supplied water in a food-safe bowl or bucket and fill in small amounts of water from your aquarium every 15 minutes. After you have repeated this 2-3 times, you can gently place the snails in the aquarium. It is important not to put the shell upside down on the bottom of the aquarium, because some species find it difficult to turn themselves upside down. Please note that many snail species need some time to look out of their shells. Some species also like to suck on hard objects, please note that you should never pull the snails on the shell but push them forward or backward so that they are released otherwise you can hurt them.
The feeding of the aquarium snails - the right snail food !
as mentioned above, snails eat algae or food remains. If you keep your snails in a species aquarium you should feed them once a week. This can be done with any food that sinks like shrimp sticks or pellets.
Snail offspring - breeding snails in the aquarium
The reproduction of snails takes place without further zutun. However, there are several different types of reproduction the post horn snail e.g. sticks every few weeks a small egg packet with up to 10 eggs on the aquarium pane. Large trumpet snails ( Tylomelenia ) on the other hand give birth to a live young snail every 3-4 months, so these are live-bearing snails. However, there are also snails such as the racing snail that cannot be bred in freshwater. They need brackish water for successful reproduction, but so far no one has succeeded in breeding these specimens in human hands.
