Java fern (Microsorum pteropus) is an exceptionally robust and adaptable plant from tropical Asia, which has been known and extremely popular in aquaristics for many decades for good reason. It grows under virtually any conditions in freshwater aquariums, does not rely on heavy fertilization, does not need to be cut back often because it grows slowly, and does not require strong light. This java fern is ready tied up on a nice root, it is suitable for aquascapes, planted aquariums as well as for breeding tanks.
It makes a real impression whenattached to roots or stones, it also sits in nature on small boulders or on driftwood close to the water. Sometimes it grows under water when the water level is high. Java fern is super suitable to set accents in the middle ground and for example to green bogwood. The plant grows optimally tied up.
Even in a humid terrarium with high humidity Javafarn grows well, so it fits great in crab terrariums or in aquaterrariums and paludariums.
To propagate, simply cut off a piece of the rhizome, which should still have a few leaves on it - at least 2. This piece is then freshly tied on and will soon continue to grow. What to note: Java fern does not like it when planted in the substrate, the rhizome (the green horizontal rhizome) should definitely remain uncovered.
