The Java fern is the most popular fern species in aquaristics and widespread in tropical Asia. The species is very variable with many leaf shapes and sizes. Due to its undemanding nature, it is the perfect beginner plant. The plants grow best with the rhizomes tied up on stones and roots. Moderate to normal lighting is quite sufficient, although the plant will grow well in stronger lighting. Daughter plants are often formed on older leaves, which can be re-tied elsewhere with a thin fishing line.
