Java moss - Taxiphyllum barbieri - Tropica Portion

The Southeast Asian moss Taxiphyllum barbieri is robust and not particularly sensitive. It is often listed as Java moss, although the original Java moss belongs to the species Vesicularia dubyana. However, Taxiphyllum barbieri replaced it already in the 1970s. Now and then V. dubyana is imported again, often as Java moss or as Singapore moss. Taxiphyllum barbieri can be cultivated well even in shady areas in the aquarium and does not make great demands on water values or temperature.

Clumps of Javamoos on small stones in the foreground bring a very special flair, and also tied up on root wood and larger stones they have a particularly beautiful effect. Over time, the moss grows firmly by itself.

A regular courageous pruning lets Taxiphyllum barbieri become beautifully dense and bushy. The pads are very easy to propagate by division, and cut shoots can also be easily reattached or glued on with cyanoacrylate-based super glue.
