Regular water change
Food, plant residues and metabolic products pollute the aquarium water. Since aquarium filters cannot completely remove these substances from the water and a large part of the dirt gets into the aquarium bottom, a regular partial water change (about every 2 weeks 1/3 of the water content) must be carried out. The partial water change should always be combined with the suction of the dirt from the bottom. After the partial water change, a good water conditioner such as JBL Biotopol should be used to prepare the new tap water for fish.

This is how to clean the aquarium bottom properly:
Push the mulm bell into the bottom of your aquarium with twisting movements. The suction pulls the bottom and the dirt in the Mulmglocke upwards. Due to its own weight, the bottom falls back down and only the dirt is sucked out of the aquarium. In the case of fine sand, you can adjust the suction by lifting the mulmglocke so that lighter sand also falls back down.
If there is a long-term substrate fertilizer under the covering gravel layer (e.g. JBL PROFLORA AQUA BASIS), the mulmglocke should not be inserted into the substrate as far as it will go, but only as deep as the covering substrate layer is thick.
