Cichlid enthusiasts know that rock cichlids from Lake Malawi are actually called mbunas. Here, however, this African term names a gnarled wooden root planted with an Anubias nana. This jungle mbuna is well suited for use in cichlid aquariums due to the plant's hard foliage. The slow growing Anubias barteri var. nana has dense dark green foliage and has found its ideal location sitting on the root. The dwarf spear leaf can even flower underwater and does very well in any area of the aquarium, whether under high or low light.
Anubias barteri var. nana is easily propagated by cutting off a section of the rootstock with two or more leaflets and re-tying it. Please never plant Anubias in substrate - the rhizome may rot.
The Mbuna jungle trees with the perching Anubias barteri var. nana also fit wonderfully on the land part of a permanently humid terrarium.
The Mbuna jungle tree is a product of nature, the pictures are for illustration, the actual supplied jungle tree may differ from this representation.
