A decorative foreground plant is Lilaeopsis brasiliensis. in its natural habitat it colonizes the banks of rivers and swamps up to an altitude of more than 1,000 m. Its grass-like character is similar to Helanthium tenellum, therefore it is sometimes called "false Tenellus". It is easy to cultivate in the aquarium, prefers cooler water and grows quite slowly, regardless of whether it is soft or hard water. Vigorous pruning, like for a lawn, promotes compact growth. It needs plenty of light.
