The beautiful colorful fir frond-like marsh friend from Asia is called with scientific name Limnophila hippuroides. This stem plant stands out because of its special shape and, of course, its distinctly beautiful colors. Its fine leaves look like feathery bushes, and the leaf colors go from reddish to dark red or even purple, especially under a lot of light.
Its height of only 20-30 cm makes this marsh friend an ideal stem plant as a color effect in the middle ground to background. The fir frond-like marsh friend is relatively demanding and shows its beautiful colors only with plenty of light and a good supply of nutrients. Especially in combination with other green, but also with red aquarium plants Limnophila hippuridoides looks extremely attractive.
The fir frond-like marsh friend grows rather medium fast. Limnophila hippuroides should nevertheless be cut back regularly so that the plant group grows nicely bushy. The colors come out especially well in tiered groups that vary in height.
Cut shoots of Limnophila hippuroides can be used as cuttings: Simply stick them a few inches deep into the bottom of the aquarium; they will quickly sprout roots. The cut plants will sprout again at the cut, so you keep the plant group compact and bushy.
Above water cultivated fir frond-like marsh friend does not show the spectacular play of colors of the underwater form. However, in a wetland terrarium or wabi kusa, paludarium or waterfall aquarium, the plant looks very delicate and ornamental even above water.
This Limnophila hippuroides was grown InVitro in a laboratory. Thanks to the InVitro rearing method, the aquarium plants do not come into contact with algae or parasites and therefore do not need to be quarantined before being planted in the shrimp tank. Please carefully remove the transparent nutrient substrate from the roots under running water before planting.
Our recommendation: For a splendid plant growth we recommend the use of the NatureHolic fertilizer series and for the new setup the Premium Nutrient Substrate NatureHolic GroundBooster.
