from over 3,000 reviews "The green pea aphids (Acyrthosiphon pisum) are a really good food for small lizards and especially for smaller amphibians in the terrarium. Also for carnivorous small crabs like Geosesarma and for surface oriented aquarium fish like Guppies, Killifish and Co. aphids are a great live food.
Because pea aphids can not be counted well, you will receive from us an aphid preparation container with one liter volume with aphids in different stages of development. When the breeding batch is still very fresh, the aphids are still small. Then you put the cup in a bright place and keep the soil a little moist. Wait a week, then the cup will be abundantly filled with aphids.
Place the container with the pea aphids in a bright place by the window without direct sun , so that the aphids can multiply nicely. The soil substrate in the breeding container is humus or potting soil and planted with forage pea plants for the pea aphids to suck on.
Don't worry, pea aphids specialize in peas as food plants and will not go after your houseplants or balcony flowers!
If kept well, the green, relatively large pea aphids show themselves to be a very productive food source . The pea aphid is relatively rich in valuable carbohydrates and also brings some protein.
In low light (less than 10 hours a day), some pea leaf aphids convert to winged form, so you should close the container with gauze or fly screen. This way, no louse can escape and your pea plants will still get enough light.
To feed them, either shake the aphids directly out of the can into the terrarium or onto the water surface in the aquarium, or put them into a clean cup and dust them with vitamin powder.
If the pea plants are about to die, you can simply take the whole batch out of the can and put it into the terrarium, so that your terrarium animals can pick the last aphids out of the plants.
Attention - start a new batch before!
This is how it works: If you need to renew the breeding batch, get feeder peas for pigs or pigeons. Soak the peas overnight in cold water. They should be covered with about a finger's width of water. It is best to keep them cool so that they do not ferment. Then, wash the swollen peas in running water and place them on unfertilized potting soil in your growing container, about 1 inch high.
Keep the peas moist so they germinate quickly. When the pea plants have grown to about 3 inches tall, add a small amount of pea leaf aphids to the container and place the plants in bright light (or illuminate them with a plant light). The lighting time should be about 13 hours per day. Now the aphids can suck the sweet sap from the pea plants and quickly start to reproduce.
