Two-spotted crickets( Gryllus bimaculatus)
Two-spotted crickets, also called Mediterranean or banana crickets, are mainly found in the
Mediterranean region. They can grow slightly larger than steppe crickets and are black in color, unlike
those. Since this insect species has to hibernate, it is also
well equipped for shipping in winter and is also considered insensitive to cold temperatures
. Otherwise the species is comparable with the steppe crickets
The robust two-spotted crickets (Gryllus bimaculatus) from the Mediterranean region are also known as banana cr ickets or Mediterranean crickets. The slightly larger black crickets grow up to 4 cm. Two-spotted crickets do not chirp. They are suitable in different sizes as live food and rearing food for amphibians, lizards, birds, insect-eating snakes and turtles, for approach food-eating fish and also for spiders.
The two-spotted cricket stimulates the natural hunting instinct of terrarium animals. Two-spotted crickets are also easy to propagate in the hobby.
Keep the two-spotted crickets at 15 to 20 °C in a large fauna box lined with egg cartons or paper towelsuntil feeding. For the Micro size, you should seal the fauna box with a nylon stocking or fine fly gauze.
As a watering place, offer the crickets a well-moistened cotton ball, because they can drown in open water bowls. For food, two-spotted crickets like cereal, oatmeal, grass or dog flakes. Fruits and vegetables provide vitamins and moisture. Uneaten fresh food should not be left in the terrarium too long to prevent it from becoming moldy.
For breeding the two-spotted cricket, the faunarium should have a temperature of 25 to 30 degrees and humidity of 65 to 70%. The terrarium must be well ventilated, yet tightly closed, so that the crickets do not escape. A bottom substrate of terrarium humus and hiding places made of pieces of cork bark or pieces of coconut shells and egg cartons are a proven setup for the breeding container for the two-spotted cricket.
You set up the breeding container similarly to the storage box and feed the crickets as described. You can also add some branches for climbing. Because some crickets can be quite cannibalistic, the adult two-spotted crickets need to be fed well. Some dry dog food can help meet their protein needs so they don't help themselves to the young.
If a two-spotted cricket escapes from you, you can easily catch them with sticky traps from the pet store.
You can buy two-spotted crickets in different sizes.
