Manzanita Wood

Whether dwarf shrimp or bottom-dwelling fish such as loricariids - they all find wood irresistible in the aquarium. And rightly so, because they know broken branches or roots from their habitat. Especially catfish need wood for their digestion and love to grate it, so you should always give your pets access to it.

With our Manzanita Wood you rely on high quality, because this wood, which belongs to the heather family (Ericaceae), was handpicked by us and comes from untreated bushes. In general, Manzanita Wood is extremely hard, which is why the retention time in the aquarium is much higher than with other types of wood. This makes it also excellent for scaping and crafting.

In the aquarium, the Manzanita Wood branch represents an enlarged surface on which denitrifying bacteria settle and multiply after a short time and contribute to the decomposition of pollutants. In doing so, they form a biofilm that is readily grazed by shrimp in particular. The Manzanita Wood has a size of approx. 50 x 30 cm and can be easily cut into shape by sawing or pinching off.

We recommend watering the Manzanita Wood before first use or attaching it directly to slates or stones to keep it submerged. It can also be beautifully greened up with Mosses or small rhizome plants such as Anubias or Bucephalandra, which you can find in our store, giving the aquarium a very personal touch.
