The Albino Metal Catfish is a breeding form of the Corydoras aeneus from South America. Its easy care and great appearance make this bottom dweller a popular ornamental fish, which can also be well maintained and socialized by beginners. Especially in so called South American tanks it looks great.
The males of the Albino Corydoras are slimmer and less large than the females, they grow altogether only to a body length of about 5 cm. The ladies become with 8 cm clearly longer and appear altogether and particularly in the belly region more massive. They can be bred in the aquarium, but it would be more advantageous to breed them in a breeding aquarium. If you feed your breeding animals well with black mosquito larvae, they will soon start courtship. Also a large water change with slightly colder water stimulates the spawning readiness additionally. The female distributes her up to 100 eggs throughout the tank, which the male then fertilizes. Depending on the temperature the first larvae hatch after 3-5 days. You can then feed them with rotifers and infusoria and later switch to Artemia nauplii.
Offer your darlings an aquarium with an edge length of at least 80 cm and make sure that the substrate is made of rounded gravel or sand, because they will dig for treats in it and otherwise injure their whiskers. With caves and catfish tubes, but also small root structures you can offer him great hiding places. He also likes to use flat pebbles for resting. You can plant the aquarium densely in places. Because it likes it rather somewhat more shady, you should dim the lighting somewhat and provide with swimming plants additionally for some darkness. Because Corys are intestinal breathers that seek out the water surface for gas exchange, this should always be freely accessible and your tank should be covered.
The Albino Metal Cory is an omnivore, but tends to eat animal food. With high-quality live food and a good frozen food you can cover his needs very well. It also eats dead plant parts and sometimes nibbles on soft algae. Feeding tabs for armored catfish are also optimal for feeding, as well as commercial flake food or soft granulated food for omnivorous aquarium fish in a community aquarium.
Our food recommendation: The NatureHolic Catfish Feed for all sucking catfish in the aquarium is a well-balanced tablet food, which does not cloud the water and the fish like to eat. The catfish tablets also contain NatureHolic active ingredient complexes that provide sucking catfish with everything they need for a strong immune system, healthy growth and great, contrasting coloration. As snack, supplementary food or vacation food we recommend the CatfishPlates.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend when keeping fish the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
