Their slow growth, great moss green color and unusual shape make the moss ball a classic in shrimp aquariums. Formerly addressed as Cladophora species they are now called Aegagropila linnaei by science. Mossballs are formed in the surf of lakes, giving them their firm consistency and spherical shape.
The velvety surface formed by the short filaments provides an optimal surface for beneficial bacteria to colonize. Thus, moss balls indirectly ensure good water quality. Due to the biofilms, shrimp find a great grazing area with natural food, and shrimp babies can optimally hide in the filaments.
Moss balls trap fine suspended particles from the water, which shrimp love to eat. For this reason, the moss balls should be cleaned every few weeks. To do this, carefully squeeze them out a little under running water. If moss balls float up, they still contain air, which can also be removed by carefully squeezing them under water.
In the middle ground or foreground, the beautiful dark green moss balls with their velvety surface provide a nice contrast to the other plants. They are only placed on the substrate, not planted. Please rotate them regularly so they grow evenly and stay green all over.
