Product information
Mourning tetra - Gymnocorymbus ternetzi
The beautiful Mourning Tetra actually only reveals its true fascination at second glance, because it doesn't quite pop in color like other aquarium fish from the tetra family. But if you look closely, the body shape of this great ornamental fish is very special, and its black and silver markings make it an elegant, classy-looking feature in the aquarium. - Garnelio

Description

This beautiful ornamental fish may not have such bright colors, but instead the Mourning Tetra (Gymnocorymbus ternetzi) from the Rio Paraguay and the Guaporé in South America is very sociable and peaceful. This pretty little tetra grows to only 5.5 cm in length, with females growing larger than males.

Mourning tetras have a black dorsal fin and a transparent caudal fin. Their anal fin is very long and black in color, and this black coloration extends over the abdomen as well. The rest of the body is olive to silvery. The front abdomen is decorated with three vertical black stripes. A fourth vertical stripe runs through the eye.

Gymnocorymbus ternetzi is a very peaceful, highly social group fish that needs the security of the school, especially when experiencing stress. Relaxed Mourning Tetras will also stand individually in the plants at times or will be in small groups. A group size of 10 Mourning Tetras is recommended.

In the aquarium you can breed Gymnocorymbus ternetzi quite easily. The Mourning Tetra is typically a free spawner and quite a spawn predator. Therefore the breeding is done in a separate breeding tank. The fish spawn in acidic and soft to medium hard water with a pH value of about 6-7 and at a temperature of about 23-28 °C. The breeding tank should be clean and clean. The breeding aquarium should be clean but somewhat weedy. A spawning grid or large pebbles at the bottom prevent the breeding pair from snacking away the eggs. The females of the Mourning Tetra lay about 300 eggs. After spawning, the adult fish are captured out. The Mourning Tetra larvae hatch after about one day. The fry are best fed rotifers and artemia euplii.

This pretty little schooling fish can be kept in an aquarium from 60 cm edge length. It fits very well in a community aqu arium with other peaceful fish that do not chase it. Also with dwarf crabs a socialization is conceivable. Baby shrimps may be eaten, but the tetra will not eat adult shrimps.

This beautiful true tetra likes dense planting along the edges in the aquarium , but you should leave swimming space in the middle . Gymnocorymbus ternetzi is comfortable in soft to hard water and is considered very adaptable. Water temperatures in the aquarium should be between 21 and 28 °C.

Like most tetras, the pretty, interestingly colored Mourning Tetra is a typical omnivore. In nature it eats approach food like insects and also insect larvae, small crustaceans and it also tugs at the one or other alga. In the aquarium it is well served with common flake food or granulated food for small omnivorous fish. From time to time the menu should be spiced up with live food and frozen food.

Our food recommendation: This NatureHolic main feed is a professional staple feed for all aquarium fish. Main feed we supply in the form of soft granules, which thanks to its grain size of half a millimeter can be easily absorbed by small to medium-sized fish. The soft consistency resembles the texture of insect larvae in nature and protects the fish mouth from micro-injuries.

Our plant recommendation: For planting, use NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.

Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.

Question: "Mit welchem futter außer lebendfutter sollte man diese Fische füttern? "
